Our School Council and Junior Leadership Team
Welcome to our School Council (Year 1&2) and Junior Leadership Team (Y3-6)
At Wootton Primary, we believe that giving children a voice and platform to share their ideas, drive real change and develop vital skills for the future is really important. To reflect this, we have updated our school council structure slightly.
School council (Year 1 & 2): A fun, encouraging first step into leadership! Our Key Stage 1 School council members help pass along ideas for school improvement from their classes, enabling their voices to be heard right from the start of their journey at Wootton Primary School.
Junior Leadership team/ JLT (Years 3-6): Our older pupils step up as JLT members to take on more responsibility, help make big decisions and drive school improvements.
How it works:
Democracy: Following a chance to pitch why they want to be a School Council/ JLT member, every representative is chosen by their classmates through a fair, secret-ballot election, giving all our pupils a practical understanding of how democracy and voting works.
Timeline: School Council and JLT members will begin their roles at the beginning of the Spring term and stay in post until the end of the following Autumn term, giving them a full year in their roles.
Mutual Respect: JLT and School Council members regularly chat with their peers, ensuring every voice is listened to, valued and respected. Ideas are gathered for school improvement and planning fundraising events.
What we've done recently:
In 2025/2026, our JLT and School Council did an amazing job! Beyond coming up with brilliant ideas to brighten our school environment and community, they organised fundraising events for Children in Need and Comic relief. They also ensured that everyone received their Christmas cards promptly!
